I'm bent, turned and......

Ok so I decided roll my hair with those 'ole fashoned sponge rollers that are usually pink. Since I'm not a pink sorta girl, I mean I have it in my closet, but I don't make that a habit. Ok, hold on I done got off track. So, I bought green and black. I rolled it the night before church & what you see above is the result. It was nice until I went out into the blustering cold wintery wind of the Detroit. Little did my lil ones know that they were defeated before they had a chance. Anyway, we pressed on to the house of the Lord anyway. I got a lot of compliments on my hair, its growth, and its style.

Thinking that this was a fluke I decided to try it again for Monday, a start to a work week I knew would end with a glass of wine and.....(ok a bottle of wine) and a HOT BATH!!! So, Monday I went to work didn't take pictures until after my day was over and was getting ready to call it a night. Take a look & tell me whatcha think....

I didn't think I would get to this point of curling my locs. I thought I would just be freestylin' for a 'lil longer. I'm gonna try smaller rods and see what the turn out will be.

Last TightenUp to end year 2!!

Ok, as I embark on my third year. I look back over some interesting moments when I truly thought that in ‘bout a year, “I’m gonna end up shaving my head again, cause this hair of mine will remain splotchy.” I did yall, I had conversation about this here…..

I can honestly say that patients is the key and all I can think about now is I’m sure glad I have hair on my head for the winter, but what about when summer rolls around again?!?!? My hair is now on my neck and in my eye…..

However, when I’m ready to change my look it will be either cutting my locs into a style or coloring my locs. In no way, by no means do I feel this is just another phase I’m going through. I have truly accepted the hair that the Divine Creator, God, had given to me, and locs are just the style I’ve always wanted. Since I’m not gonna perm, and can’t stand pressing, flat ironing etc. This IS the logical explanation, and I’ve wanted to loc for years, but was comfortable with what I knew & afraid of the unknown. Ok, ok, ok, enough of that……

I have always, had an air of confidence no matter how BIG or small, faded or permed, bald or braided and now loc’d. I have to confess that the beginning was a ‘lil hard on my confidence, but I stuck it through. I think the vanity is from well… both mom & dad’s sides of the families. So, I got it honestly….this attitude that, “I LOOK GOOOOOOOD!”

(still concerned ‘bout that eyebrow). So, now I’m working on on my 3rd year (10/2008 -10/2009). I know everyone celebrates the actual Loc’d date or thereabouts. I celebrate the move INTO the next year. Like those ‘lil kids that say I’m 5 ½ . So, if I had to count I would say that I am……24month & 5days.

So, here are a few of the good’ens not in any particular order.

Thanksgivin' in B-Moe......

Ok, so today is 2/26/08, this is Sssssssso LATE I can't even believe it. I am 'bout the biggest procrastinator in the world. I digress..... '07 Thanksgiving I went o Baltimore, MD with my dad to visit my big sissy!!! I love that chile. Both of us always say, "If you weren't my sister I know we would be great friends." Anyhoo here ya go......

Can't forget about QueenB, Ms. Misty. What about they's Aunties Babies, yes them is!!!! Yeah, neither my sister or I have children.

Ok my sister & I decided around the same time to grow our hair. She & I both wore our hair faded or shaved. She's rockin' her twists, twist outs, braid out. Her hair is loooooong. However, she now has seen how my hair has grown with SL's & she wants to take the plunge I know she does. JUST DO, GIRL!!!!

I have done it!! I have gone 2 years with out fadin' or shavin' my head. I have been loc'd now for a year and some dayz & I now know that I actually like hair. So, off to year Two, deux, dos!!!!!

Random Rambling....

Hey yall,
I haven't really been in the mood to post anything, but I have been lurking in my favorite blogs & sites, posted comments on other blogs & such, but just haven't had the desire to post. This time of year I seem to go through this constant running round tryin' to get all the winter clothes/coats dry cleaned, washable knits washed..........As the season changes what are the things that you find yourself doing every year to prepare for the start of cold wintery weather?

Oh BTW my 1 year SisterLockVersary is 10/10th & I am soooooooooo GEEKED!!

I got this email from my daddy this morning with the subject line............."You've gone too far Monique". However, I don't think so. Growing up I was always the tallest, and a 'lil on the chubby side. However, my mom instilled in me that just because your pleasingly plump, clean it up and dress it up. So my response to my daddy's email was as follows........"No. I don't think she's gone too far. We all know that she has been in the forefront of trying to change society's views of full figured women. I thank my mom for being that role model for me, later in her life, showing me that a full figured woman can be beautiful, classy, stylish, smart, and still have her husband flirt with her."

1. I am the youngest of three, but I'm taller then the eldest, not sure where the middle child is....The sister I grew up with(oldest) and we found out at the age of 33 & 27 that we had another sister in between us. Shocked? So were we, that our mom had tipped out & not our dad, shocked even more huh? Yeah I know.

2. I've been married, and divorced all before I was 30....married a good guy,(hell he does my taxes) but we were better friends then husband/wife.

3. I am a few credits short of a degree........I know, I know, sad state of affairs. I will be enrolled this fall at WSU.

4. I am a smoker.........Virginia Slims Ultra Lights Non-Menthol........if I want mint I'll grab a piece of gum, or an Altoid & I know I need to quit.

5. I was a coloratura soprano, when I studied music, but am now mezzo-Soprano..........I knew I shouldn't have had that last cig, shoot.

6. 2004 I participated in a gospel talent showcase here in the D, and as one of the 1st prize winners I was able to perform on a broadcast with Bobby Jones..........When I got to Florida for the taping of the gospel industry retreat, I bombed. I didn't like what I had on, I was not in good voice at all. However, I got a hit on google :o).

7. I've come to the realization that I'm a procrastinator. I've been in denial for so long.

I am suprised at how much my hair as not only grown but filled out. Ericka is the bigidybigidyBOMB!!! Girlfriend was moooooooving last night.

The TightenUp.......

The last time I had a retightening was in February, and I just recently had...............no, NEEDED to see my F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S consultant Ericka on Sunday 5/6 @ 7:30ish in the AM!!! I am so geeked. My hair had grown so much. Yall know from my Fotki, http://public.fotki.com/HaZeLEyEd1/, that my hair was thin in spots. In the beginning..............

then there was the first retightening.............. Still a 'lil scalpy, yeah........huh?!?!?................I know, but it got real bad. I think I neglected my babies when I was going through my whole car situation. SHOOT I didn't have the money to get that attention to detail that Ericka cares about so much. So I looked like THIS 'bout the head..............

CHIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile..................on Sunday the back row was taken down and the single locs were made two.

My baby, yall know the one that was the first to just bloom, is now FOUR smaller locs. It took some time, but I am so happy that my hair is TightenedUP!! I feel like a new person. I remember when my appointment for a fresh perm or fade where DUE!!! After it was done you couldn't tell me SHHHhhhhhhhh.......

I'm excited that I am actually letting my hair grow. 2 years ago this time I was BALD, by choice, but nontheless BALD!! Well TODAY marks 7 months being SL'd and let me tell you................... I'm still happy I made the jump to Sisterlocks(r).
